LIVE TREES
Stop by the winery for live, 30" spruce trees (only $39.95). We will have some smaller trees (12" to 18") available too for $19.95. Ideal for your porch or holiday decorating.

Plant the tree in the spring and expand on Sanson Estate Winery's "Tree, Water and Wildlife" project. All proceeds assist local habitat creation projects...make this your holiday "Act of Green". You can download a PDF (2.2 MB) here to learn about landowner actions (including Sanson) in Essex County, or visit www.carolinian.org to learn more about Carolinian Canada.

OUR HABITAT
In addition to the winery itself, the one hundred acres of the estate include a natural wooded area with ponds, fields for grazing cattle, a large vegetable garden and of course the vineyard. Our goal has been and remains the combination of sustainable agricultural practices with restoration of the natural heritage of the land.

Sanson Estate Winery is an active partner in the Essex County Stewardship Network which consists of local landowners, farmers, naturalists and hunters who share a vision of responsible use of our land and resources. Of particular interest to us is the creation and maintenance of wetlands and wooded areas on the western edge of the winery's property. Here there are homes for White-tailed deer and wild turkeys. In addition, the fields behind the winery, grazed on by our Limousin cattle, provide much needed habitat for grassland species of birds such as Savannah Sparrows, Meadowlarks and Bobolinks. We wish to restore and maintain our native Carolinian habitat and preserve it for future generations.

Dennis Sanson has made a commitment to the land in this area:
  • Learned as much as possible about the land's ecosystem and microclimate & developed a long-term conservation plan.
  • Became an active member of the Essex County Stewardship Network & hosted promotional events for the organization.
  • Added 3 acres of wetland, and restored 35 acres of woodland and wetland surrounding a tributary of the Canard River.
  • Provided bird houses for Tree Swallows and Bluebirds along with other habitat alterations to encourage other wildlife.
