SUMMER SOLSTICE 
On Saturday, June 20th, visitors to Sanson Estate Winery will get to enjoy more than just great wine. Summer Solstice - the winery's fourth annual summer customer appreciation celebration - will welcome summer along with some special guests.From 12pm to 4pm visitors of all ages are welcome to enjoy:
Guests will get a rare treat to visit some of winery's protected land with retired veterinarian and avid birder, Dr. Dan Loncke. Very familiar with the area (the winery was in Dr. Dan's square for the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas), Dr. Dan will share his knowledge about the different animal species that have made the farm their home including a group of grassland birds: Bobolink, Eastern meadowlarks, and Savannah sparrows. Guests should remember to bring comfortable outdoor walking shoes (or rubber boots) and binoculars or cameras. The annual celebration is held in cooperation with the Essex County Stewardship Network (ECSN) who has been instrumental in assisting the winery with restoring 38 acres of woodland and wetland habitat. ECSN will have a display set up with more information on their habitat initiatives; Friends of Point Pelee will be there too with their living displays. New to the celebrations this year, the winery is proud to welcome commercial falconer, Stephen Bucciarelli from London. Falcons play an important role at many wineries where they are used to keep birds from eating the grapes off of the vines. Come and see these highly trained, majestic birds up close! For the past two years, Sanson has been selling all-natural Limousin beef and Berkshire pork products from their retail store. Raised at the winery, the beef cattle enjoy a large pasture and are free from antibiotics, steroids and hormones. The Berkshire pork is local and is also all-natural. The BBQ featured items at Summer Solstice will include Limousin beef burgers and Berkshire pork sausages served with other local and seasonal snacks. The day will be complimented with samples of the many great wines that Sanson Estate Winery offers. Just in time for the summer weather, Sanson's 2006 Sauvignon Blanc is now on the shelves and the winemaker hopes to have a few surprises ready for the weekend crowd.
